Dr. Seward arrives at Hillingham to find the house locked and silent, fearing the worst for Lucy. Van Helsing joins him; they break in through a kitchen window, discover the servants drugged with laudanum, and find Lucy and her dead mother in bed with Lucy near death from blood loss. They revive Lucy with brandy and a hot bath, then perform another blood transfusion from Quincey Morris; later Lucy dies despite their efforts, but Van Helsing declares it is only the beginning of their troubles.
