Jonathan Harker joins the men on a dangerous nighttime search of Carfax house, where they discover only twenty-nine of the Count's boxes remain and battle a massive swarm of rats with the help of dogs. The group equips themselves with religious items and weapons before exploring the foul-smelling chapel, then returns home resolved to continue their hunt while keeping Mina safely excluded from further involvement. The next day, Mina feels increasingly anxious and excluded as the men withhold information from her, and she experiences a terrifying dream of a mist with red eyes that echoes her past encounters with the vampire.
